A personal
approach to care.
Skin cancer may appear as a new or changing growth, rough or scaly patch, or sore that bleeds, itches, or does not heal. On the face and head, treatment also considers appearance and function. Care can include removing cancerous tissue and, when removal leaves a facial defect, reconstruction of nearby skin and soft tissue.
Evaluation generally begins with a medical history and focused skin examination. A biopsy may be used to identify cancer cells, while pathology and, when needed, staging tests help guide next steps. Treatment depends on the cancer type, size, location, and extent and may include excision, Mohs surgery, topical treatment, radiation, or other cancer therapies. A consultation can discuss margins, possible scarring, facial function, and whether reconstruction is appropriate, with the plan shaped by your health, the lesion, and your goals.
