Scar revisions

Scar revisions are treatments intended to make a noticeable scar less prominent, not erase it. A scar may stand out because it is raised, thick, depressed, discolored, uneven in texture, or positioned where it draws attention. Some scars also itch, hurt, feel tight, or restrict movement. Scarring can follow an injury, burn, acne, skin procedure, or surgery, and healing is not always predictable. The right approach depends on the scar and the concern it causes.

During a consultation, the clinician reviews how the scar formed, how it has changed, your symptoms, prior treatments, and your goals, then examines its size, location, color, texture, thickness, and flexibility. Options may include silicone or pressure-based care, injections, resurfacing, or surgical revision, depending on the findings. Some scars need more than one approach, and treatment can carry risks such as irritation, pigment changes, recurrence, or a new scar. Your plan should be individualized, with realistic expectations discussed before treatment.
